Race Management reserves the right to make changes and amendments to the rules and regulations at any time. In the event that changes are made, race management will contact all registered teams with the updates so that they may make the appropriate adjustments to their preparations for the race.

To be considered a registered racer, the racer must submit all required paperwork and full payment for the race on or before the stated deadline date. If all paperwork and full payment is not received by this date the racer may be forced to forfeit their spot in the race. If circumstances exist that require a racer to make their final payment after the deadline, they must have informed Race Management and have received approval.

Infiterra Sports will offer the following refund policy:
  • 30 days or more prior to the event = 75% refund

  • 11-30 days = 50% refund

  • 10-1 days = 25% refund

  • Day of event = No refund

  • A full refund will be issued if a participant were called up to active duty by the military.

Race Management reserves the right to restrict access to the race for any racer without an explanation. Entry into the race is handled on a first-come, first-serve basis only if race management approves the applying racer. Race management also reserves the right to remove any racer from the registered participant list should race management feel that the racer will not be suitably prepared for the event or may act in a way that will be harmful to themselves, other participants (including but not limited to competitors, volunteers, media and staff) or the event as a whole.

Each racer must check in for registration during scheduled registration time. At this point, race management will verify that all paperwork is in order. The paperwork required includes:
  • a signed waiver;
  • full payment of entrance fee and complete contact information for racer;
Note: A participant will not be allowed to compete unless all contact information is complete and accurate.

IV. RACE BRIEFING

Following registration, all racers must attend the race briefing at the scheduled time prior to the event. The race briefing will consist of an overview of the course and a question and answer period.

V. THE RACECOURSE

The racecourse will start at a disclosed location. Racers must travel through the course as specified by race management. Any racer who does not follow the course as determined may be disqualified.

The entire course will be given to racers at the race briefing and may be outlined prior to the event on the website. Race management reserves the right to make changes to the course during the race due to unforeseen circumstances such as, but not limited to, inclement weather. Any changes made will be communicated to all racers as soon as is reasonable and will be done as equitably as possible for all participants.
  1. Swim

    A racer may use any stroke to propel them through the water, and may tread water or float. In addition a participant may stand on the bottom or rest by holding an inanimate object such as a buoy, boat, rope or floating object.

    Swimmers will be required to wear designated swim cap if given by the race director. Swimmers may wear, but shall not be required to wear, swim goggles or face masks and shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty.

  2. Kayak

    A racer entered into the kayak division is responsible for providing their own kayak, paddle and Coast Guard approved Type III PFD (Personal Flotation Device). Any type of single person kayak (composite, fiberglass, plastic, kevlar, wood, rubber) may be used. Please check with event organizers prior to start of race if you have any questions about acceptable boats. Please note, sails and/or kites are not allowed.

    The responsibility of knowing and following the prescribed kayak course rests with each participant. No adjustments in times or results shall be made for participants who fail to follow the proper course for any reason whatsoever.

  3. Bike

    All bicycles shall be propelled only by human force and human power. Other than pushing a bicycle, any propulsive action brought on by use of the hands is prohibited. Any violation of this Section shall result in disqualification.

    Each racer is required to have one mountain bike for the biking section of the race. Road, cyclo-cross and tandem bikes are not permitted. Each racer must also finish the biking section with their mountain bike.

    Participants shall not make any forward progress unaccompanied by their bicycle. If a bicycle is rendered inoperable, a participant may proceed on the cycling course, running or walking, while pushing or carrying the bicycle, so long as the bicycle is pushed or carried in a manner not to obstruct or impede the progress of other participants. Any violation of this Section shall result in disqualification.

    All participants shall wear a protective head cover, undamaged and unaltered, which meets or exceeds the safety standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The helmet must be fastened before the participant first mounts the bicycle, at all times when the participant is on the bicycle, and must not be unfastened until the participant has dismounted. Any violation of this, which occurs while the participant is in the transition area, shall result in a variable time penalty. Any other violation of this Section shall result in disqualification.

    Drafting is permitted unless otherwise indicated by race staff prior to the event. However, towing is not permitted and shall result in disqualification.

    Except for reasons of safety and when no advantage is gained, all cyclists shall keep to the right of the prescribed course unless passing. Slower riders shall give passer right away and if found blocking on the trail or obstructing the progress of another participant may be subject to penalty. In addition a participant who approaches another cyclist from the rear or from another unfavorable position bears primary responsibility for avoiding a position foul even if the cyclist being approached decreases speed. A participant must not attempt to pass another cyclist unless adequate space is available and the athlete is confident of his/her ability to pass the other cyclist. All passing is to be done to the left of the cyclist being overtaken unless otherwise specified. If a racer is found endangering other participants while passing they may be subject to penalty.

    The responsibility of knowing and following the prescribed cycling course rests with each participant. No adjustments in times or results shall be made for participants who fail to follow the proper course for any reason whatsoever.

    The responsibility of knowing and following the prescribed running course rests with each participant. No adjustments in times or results shall be made for participants who fail to follow the proper course for any reason whatsoever.

  5. Transition Area

    All participants shall place equipment only in the properly designated and individually assigned sections and shall at all times keep their equipment confined to such properly designated areas.

    A participant must reduce cycling speed to an acceptable and safe level when exiting and entering the transition area.

    All participants must return their bicycles to an upright position in the properly designated bicycle corral after completion of the cycling course and before beginning the next segment of the event. Any violation of this Section shall result in a variable time penalty.

    No participant shall impede the forward progress of another participant or interfere with another participant's equipment while in the transition area.

    Public nudity in the transition area or at any time during the event is prohibited. Any violation of this Section shall result in a variable time penalty.

VI. TIMING

There will be one official race clock for the entire race. The clock will start when race management begins the race at the start line and will remain running until the pre-determined cutoff time for the race. The official time for each racer will be recorded when the racers crosses the finish line. If a racer receives a time penalty for a violation of the race rules and regulations, an adjustment will be added to their final time that will be made to represent the official rankings and results.

VII. RANKINGS

The first racer to cross the finish line will be the winner.

Prizes will typically be given for four divisions in: Male – Swim, Female – Swim, Male – Kayak and Female – Kayak.

VIII. RACE NUMBERS AND SPONSORSHIP

All racers must wear the Infiterra Sports Adventure Tri race number provided at all times during the race. It must be made visible (so it is in plain sight at all times) and may not be altered in any way. Removing any race logos from the number, covering logos or adding logos may result in disqualification from the race. Racers are free to wear any other items or logos for their individual sponsors provided they do not interfere with the Infiterra Sports event sponsor logos.

IX. EQUIPMENT

Racers will be required to supply their own food and drink for the entire race. Racers will also be responsible for the supply and handling of all equipment required for the race.

Any device or item that offers an unfair advantage to the racers possessing it may be deemed as forbidden. Please check with event organizers prior to start of race if you have any items that may be questionable. If it is decided that the item will not be forbidden, event organizers will keep the query confidential. Any racer possessing an item deemed forbidden may be subject to penalty.

X. SAFETY

Racers are encouraged to help each other while on the course. No penalty will be incurred for receiving assistance from another racer. If a racer comes in contact with another racer that is in an emergency situation they are required to stop and help. Failure to help another racer requiring emergency assistance may result in disqualification. Racers that do offer assistance in emergency situations may be awarded a time bonus.

Weather conditions may restrict safe travel for certain sections of the course. Race management reserves the right to make changes to the course or restrict travel on certain sections due to weather conditions.

XI. WITHDRAWAL FROM THE RACE

Racers may only voluntarily withdraw from the competition of the event at a designated transition area, with the exception of injury situations. Any racer that voluntarily withdraws from the race must find transportation back to the finish line. If a racer voluntarily withdraws at an area other than a transition area and it is not as a result of an injury or a safety concern, they will be required to pay for the cost of removing them from the course.

XII. PENALTIES

Race management reserves the right to issue time penalties to racers, disqualify racers from the official rankings or remove racers from the course if they violate any of the rules and regulations of the race. The severity of the penalty will depend on the severity of the offence and will be decided by judges. The following is a list of violations:
  • not following the prescribed rules of safe travel (e.g. wearing approved life jacket for kayaking);
  • possessing forbidden equipment;
  • failing to make the provided race number visible at all times;
  • using any means of transportation not authorized by race management;
  • any environmental damage or littering;
  • deviation from mandatory course;
  • unfair behavior.
This is not an exhaustive list. Please contact race management before the start of the race if you have specific questions regarding penalties.

XIII. ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

All event participants must act in an environmentally responsible manner at all times during an Infiterra Sports event, including during registration and pre-race activities and post-race activities. Specifically, racers should obey the following principles:
  • no litter, gear or any other object can be left on the racecourse, at the start line or host site except in designated disposal locations;
  • all human waste must be buried or properly disposed of in all situations and must not be done so within 50 meters of a water source (stream, river, pond, lake or otherwise);
  • no cutting of vegetation of any type or deliberately causing unnecessary damage to vegetation or unnecessary erosion in areas with loose ground;
  • every effort must be made to avoid harassing animals of any type in their natural habitat. In all encounters with wild or tame animals the animal has the right of way;
  • if a competitor or team notices litter, gear or any other object left by another participant it is that participant’s responsibility to pack it out to the next manned control point to be left with the control point staff.
