About The Race:
This is the inaugural Get Your Bearings Sprint Adventure Race. This
race is being directed by long time Adventure Racers Cooper and
Michelle Green. Veteran racers, this is your chance to bring your
friends, co-workers or family members out to try a race without the
pressure. There will be no "super-stud" teams since each team will have
a first timer racing. The warm summer weather will make this race easy
to prepare for and a blast to race! We are providing all boats for the
race, so no pressure there either. No support crew will be needed.
Teams will be required to navigate each stage of the race using
provided pre-marked topographical maps. Navigation difficulty will vary
by control point, but will be on the easy side for the majority of this
event. Each team will be issued a passport that will be punched at
designated control points along the way. Teams will be required to
carry the gear on the mandatory gear list.
There will be a series of clinics and training sessions leading up to
the race coordinated by the Get Your Bearings organizers (look for
various threads on this topic on the message board).
Racer Check In Information & Directions:
Racer check in and registration will be at the Acorn Ridge Picnic Area at Huron Meadows Metro Park . For a park map click here. Note that the race will be in the section of the park north of Hammel Road.
The park is located at:

Trekking / Trail Running / Orienteering:
The total trekking will be in the 3-5 mile range - depending on the selected route and number of CP's achieved. The terrain will vary from trails to dense brush, woodlands and swampy lowlands. Teams will always go through a significant off-trail section(s) where navigation will be tested. Maps will be USGS 1:24000 or 1:12000. Maps will be pre-marked with points.
Canoe:
Teams will be paddling 1-2 miles depending on their route. Canoes are being provided by Heavner Canoe Livery. Paddles and PFDs will be provided also, however, you can use your own paddles and PFDs instead if you prefer.
Mountain Bike:
The mountain bike stage(s) will be 9-11 miles in length. Teams must locate and check in at each of the required checkpoints. The course will include a portion of single track with the remaining portion on a mix of dirt and paved roads.
